Anime Revolution began as a concept by ChibiCree and StarFire in 1999 when they were roommates at college. They found they loved making anime wallpapers, and wanted to share their creations with the anime community. They incorporated an element of StarFire's then-smaller Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon shrine, Full Moon Over Crystal Tokyo into the new site - an anime webpage banner-making service. They then taught themselves how to customize Winamp skins, and added that to their repertoire. (Please see here for information about the programs AR uses to create and edit our works and to maintain the site itself.) The site finally went live in 2000. Before long, they had discovered how much they enjoyed Jpop, so they began to add works from some of their favorite artists for some variety - at the time almost no anime wallpaper sites offered Jpop sections, and there are still few who do, let alone who take requests. The site slowly began to gain a small following.
With more popularity also came some major problems for the staff - the site was getting so large and getting so many hits that their server was threatening to make them pay for dedicated hosting - much more expensive then the plan they originally had agreed to. Those who have been with the site since the beginning may recall that we have had several absences over the years we've been active - most of which were due to unforeseen hosting problems such as the site being deleted without warning, or server mishaps. ChibiCree and StarFire actually considered shutting the site down at one point because they got so discouraged, but then decided that they enjoyed the work too much and would miss it, so they trudged along.
The AR Staff later grew with the addition of StarFire's fiancé, the Mattousai, whom she met in college and summarily introduced to ChibiCree. All three generally work on their own favorite aspects of the site - ChibiCree enjoys doing work with anime images, StarFire enjoys doing work with actual photos and Winamp skins, and the Mattousai loves making game wallpapers. They all work together to complete requests and fill out the bare patches in the site, which is constantly being added to, and which they hope to continue to make larger.
Now the site has grown immensely not only in size, but in amounts and subjects of offerings, and most importantly, in web popularity. Not only the site has matured over the years - all three webmasters have polished their skills on the AR playing field, and have grown even closer together through the trials offered by running such a huge undertaking. But most of all, the staff all agree that our success has been due to the wonderful and loyal following we've developed. We truly appreciate all the feedback and encouragement we receive from our visitors, and we thank all those who continue to spread the word about our site through message boards, link lists, and on their sites. All the staff thoroughly enjoy what they do, and sincerely hope to continue to bring more to the anime community for many years to come.
